Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that is found within the body. It may be produced by bacteria and purified for use as injectable soft tissue filler in order to correct the appearance of facial wrinkles and creases. Dermal fillers closely resemble the naturally occurring material in the body. They have the effect of plumping up the skin, making it appear fuller and smoother. The product is approved by the Food and Drug Administration of the U.S. (FDA) for the cosmetic treatment of facial wrinkles and creases. This treatment is commonly used for naso-labial lines, cheeks, and lips and can last for about 9 to 12 months based on your lifestyle. You can resume your normal daily routine immediately after these treatments. These unique products that we use are made of a high concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid for long-lasting results and provide a smooth, natural look and feel. Dermal fillers all work to improve the appearance of aging skin in the following ways:
Filling out thin or wrinkled lips
Filling in wrinkles, fine lines and deep creases
Contouring the jaw line and other areas of the face
Treating fat loss
Improving other imperfections like scars
Plumping up cheeks
What are the risks? Bleeding is usually minimal and resolves within a few minutes. It is possible to have a bleeding episode from the injection of the local anesthesia or filler that requires treatment, but it is unusual. Bruising in the area is also an expected reaction and can take up to a week to resolve. Swelling is also expected and may take several days to a week to resolve. It is unusual but medical treatment may be necessary if swelling is slow to resolve. Pain is expected with injections but usually lasts less than a day.
